At our rescue, we have a long-standing policy of not placing dogs of the same sex together in adoptive homes. While there are always exceptions to every rule, we’ve found through years of experience that same-sex pairings—especially female-female or male-male—can lead to tension, competition, and conflict down the line, even if things start off smoothly. Our goal is always to set both the dog and the adoptive family up for long-term success, and opposite-sex placements tend to offer the best chance for harmony and balance in the home.
